TRY PRAISE
Chapter 1: A Heavy Heart
The sunlight filtered through the lace curtains of the church office as Mrs. James entered, her shoulders stooped under the weight of her troubles. The faint notes of a slow piano melody filled the air, creating a solemn atmosphere. Pastor Daniels looked up from his Bible and greeted her with a warm smile.
“Good morning, Pastor,” she said, her voice tinged with despair.
“Good morning, Mrs. James,” he replied, concern already forming in his eyes. “How are you today?”
She hesitated, then let out a deep sigh. “Sir, I am not well. Everything is not fine.”
The pastor set his Bible aside and leaned forward. “What is it?”
Mrs. James clasped her hands tightly. “It’s my husband. His cheating habits, his late nights at bars with his worldly friends… Sir, my youngest daughter asked me why her father travels and never returns.”
“When did he travel?” the pastor asked, puzzled.
“He didn’t,” she explained bitterly. “He comes home late when the children are asleep and locks himself in his room. He doesn’t want to be disturbed.”
The pastor’s face grew solemn. “Hmm, this is serious. We need to intensify our prayers.”
“Sir, I’ve prayed. I’ve fasted. I’ve confronted him, but I only get beatings in return,” she said, her voice breaking as tears streamed down her face. “My spirit is weak. What have I done wrong? Why is God not answering my prayers?”
“It is well, Mrs. James,” the pastor said gently. “Don’t let this shake your faith in God.”
“Sir, I’m exhausted. I’ve gone on seven-day fasts, three-day fasts, and still, no change.”
“Listen to me, Mrs. James. God will not abandon you. I believe He is already working behind the scenes. Can I pray with you?”
“Yes, Pastor, please pray for me and my home. I don’t want my children to grow up in this environment.”
The pastor nodded. “Before I pray, let me show you something in the Word of God. Open your Bible to Philippians 4:6.”
Mrs. James wiped her tears and opened her Bible. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God,” she read aloud.
“That’s exactly what you need to do,” the pastor said. “You have prayed; now it is time to praise. Don’t let fear take hold. Your prayers have planted a seed. Praise will water it so it can grow and bear fruit.”
Chapter 2: The Turning Point
That night, the house was quiet except for the soft chirping of crickets. In her dimly lit room, Mrs. James knelt beside her bed. The glow of the moon illuminated her tear-streaked face as she clasped her hands together.
“Father, Lord, I thank You,” she began softly. “Thank You for the gift of life and for all You’ve done for me and my family. Thank You for my husband. Thank You for sparing his life each day. Thank You for protecting him even in his recklessness. Thank You for keeping him away from harm and for the healing process You’ve already begun. I know that one day, he will truly meet You and change for the better.”
Her words, though simple, were filled with faith and hope. She sang softly, her voice rising and falling with a melody that filled the room with peace.
Chapter 3: A New Dawn
The next day, the sound of a car pulling into the driveway startled Mrs. James. She glanced at the clock. It was midday—unusual for her husband to be home at this hour. She hurried to the window, her heart pounding with apprehension.
“Who could it be?” she murmured.
“Daddy!” Dorcas, their youngest, squealed as the front door opened. “Mummy, Daddy is back!”
Mrs. James’s jaw dropped as her husband stepped into the living room. “This is unbelievable,” she whispered.
Mr. James knelt and embraced his daughter before standing to face his wife. “Welcome,” she said cautiously.
“How are you, my sweetheart?” he asked, his voice unusually tender.
Mrs. James blinked in surprise. “You said…?”
“Let me get you some water,” he offered, but she shook her head.
Dorcas picked up her father’s bag. “Should I take it to your room, Daddy?”
“No,” he said. “Take it to your mummy’s room.”
Mrs. James stared at him in disbelief. “To whose room?”
“Dear, I need to apologize,” he said, his voice breaking. “I’ve hurt you terribly. Your prayers touched me. Despite everything, you still thanked God for my life. I couldn’t sleep last night. I heard you praying, and I’ve felt no peace since then. I’ve decided to leave my old ways and focus on my family.”
Tears welled up in her eyes. “Jesus, I thank You,” she said, her voice trembling. “So this is what was missing all along: watering the seed with praise. My dear, I forgive you. Please, stand up.”
Mr. James knelt and took her hands. “Thank you. I’m ready to give my life to Jesus.”
Overcome with joy, Mrs. James began to sing.
“You are too faithful to fail me, You are too faithful to leave me halfway…”
As her voice filled the house, it was as if the walls themselves rejoiced. The seed she had planted was now bearing fruit, and the restoration of her home had begun.
