TWO PIECES PART 1

TWO PIECES PART 1

Chapter 1: A Wedding of Doubts

The church was silent, save for the soft hum of the air conditioning and the occasional rustling of fabric as guests adjusted in their seats. The heavy scent of fresh flowers mingled with the faint aroma of incense, a fragrance that should have evoked peace but instead felt suffocating to Samuel Akinbule. His heartbeat pounded in his ears, drowning out everything else as he stood at the altar, his hands clammy despite the cool air.

Pastor Adeolu cleared his throat, his deep voice resonating through the microphone. “Brother Samuel Akinbule, do you take Sister Bella Macaulay as your wedded wife, to love and to cherish, to be honest, faithful, and loving for the rest of your days?”

Samuel inhaled sharply, forcing a smile. “I do.”

The congregation murmured in approval, heads nodding in acknowledgment. It was a day of joy—or at least, it was supposed to be.

Pastor Adeolu turned to the bride. “Sister Bella Macaulay, do you take Brother Samuel Akinbule as your wedded husband, to love and to cherish, to be honest, faithful, and loving for the rest of your days?”

Silence.

A sharp contrast to the moment before.

A soft sob broke through the stillness. A single tear slipped down Bella’s delicate cheek, followed by another.

The pastor chuckled, attempting to lighten the mood. “Church, I believe these are tears of joy. Please, put your hands together for the Lord!”

The congregation clapped hesitantly, the sound scattered and uncertain.

Samuel swallowed hard. He knew better. He could feel it in his bones—this was not joy. This was doubt, hesitation, something unspeakable forming in the air between them. His stomach twisted in knots, the weight of an impending disaster pressing down on him.

He turned to Bella, searching her face for an answer, but she only lowered her gaze, her lips trembling.

“Well, I don’t think that is a tear of joy,” Samuel said, his voice steady, though he felt anything but. “I think the one I love is about to say no to me at the altar. This would be a very big disgrace to me, but the question is—how did I get here?”

The question echoed in his mind, louder than the pastor’s voice, louder than the murmurs of the guests, louder than his own racing thoughts.

First, let me introduce myself—Samuel Akinbule. I am a man of faith, of dreams, of unwavering love for the woman standing before me. Her beauty is breathtaking, her kindness is inspiring, her love has astounded me in ways I never imagined possible. I never thought I would be so lucky to have such a wonderful woman at the altar with me.

But now, she hesitates. And I fear the worst.

I can’t wait to hear her say ‘I do.’ But what if she doesn’t?

I should have tied all loose ends before today. Did I miss something? Was I blind to the truth? Am I about to face the greatest humiliation of my life?

The answer is buried in the past, in the moments leading up to this day.

And as I stand here, staring into the eyes of the woman I love, I can only hope that this isn’t the beginning of a tragedy.

Chapter 2: Shattered Bonds

The air inside Bella’s house felt heavy, thick with unspoken words and heartbreak. Samuel stood near the door, his face pale, his hands clenched into fists. Outside, the world continued—distant honks of passing cars, birds chirping, life moving on. But inside this house, inside this moment, his world was crumbling.

“Babe, please listen to me,” he pleaded, his voice strained, desperate. “You can’t do this to me. I am begging you.”

Bella stood with her arms crossed, her expression cold and resolute. Her stance, the firm set of her jaw, told him everything he didn’t want to hear.

“I’m sorry, Sam,” she said, her tone unwavering. “This is my conclusion.”

Samuel’s breath hitched. “No, it cannot be. I did not do anything to deserve this.”

Bella looked away, her face unreadable. “Sam, I’m sorry, but my decision stands.”

He shook his head, disbelief washing over him in waves. “Wait a minute… Did I do something?”

“No,” she admitted.

“Did you find out something funny about me? Something bad?”

“Nope.”

“Then why do you want to end this relationship?” He took a step forward, trying to close the emotional gap growing between them.

Bella exhaled slowly, her voice almost tired. “I’m just… tired of this thing we call a relationship.”

Samuel’s heart clenched at her words. He ran a trembling hand through his hair, his voice breaking as he whispered, “But I love you.”

Bella’s eyes softened for a brief moment, but then she blinked, her resolve returning. “I know. But I’m sorry. This relationship has to come to an end.”

He swallowed hard, his throat dry. “Bella… don’t you love me?”

Silence.

Then, the dagger to his heart.

“Not anymore,” she said firmly.

His knees felt weak, as if the very ground beneath him was betraying him. “What did I do?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

“Nothing.”

“Then you can’t just say you’re breaking up with me.” He grabbed her hands, holding on as if she was his last lifeline. “Babe, please. Don’t do this.”

Bella pulled away sharply, her eyes flashing with irritation. “Sam… get out of my house.”

He stood frozen, his mind refusing to process her words. “No, please. I am begging you.”

“Get out,” she repeated, her voice growing harder.

“I can’t. Not until you tell me what I have done. Why are you breaking up with me?”

Bella rolled her eyes, her patience at its end. “I am not ready for any stupid discussion anymore. This thing between us is over.” She took a step toward him, her expression thunderous. “Now get out of my house before I call the police.”

Samuel staggered back, his heart pounding. His mind swirled with confusion, with grief, with disbelief.

“Somebody, please wake me up,” he muttered, rubbing his face as if he could wipe away reality. “I’m sure this is a dream.”

Bella’s lips curled into something between a smirk and a grimace. “Hey boy, you’re not dreaming. This is reality. This stupid relationship is over.”

Then, she raised her voice, the final blow to his crumbling heart.

“Get. Out.”

A cold silence followed, broken only by the distant hum of the outside world.

And then, with slow, defeated steps, Samuel turned and walked away, leaving behind the love that had just shattered into a million irreparable pieces.

Chapter 3: A Desperate Call

The sun had long set over the quiet suburbs of a town in the United Kingdom. Inside a modest but tastefully furnished apartment, Kunle sat on the couch, scrolling through his phone, when the sound of the front door opening caught his attention.

“Hey, babe,” Brenda greeted, stepping in and closing the door behind her.

Kunle looked up with a warm smile. “Hi, welcome.”

“Thanks,” she said, dropping her bag on the table and letting out a small sigh of relief.

“How was work today?” Kunle asked, moving towards her.

Brenda stretched her arms, shaking off the tension of the day. “Went well.”

Kunle raised a brow. “And how is Kelvin?”

Brenda let out a deep sigh before answering. “Hmm, that guy… babe, he is something else.”

Kunle frowned slightly. “What happened?”

Brenda hesitated for a moment before shaking her head. “Basically, these white folks are something else, my God.”

Kunle could sense the frustration in her voice. He walked closer to her, gently placing his hands on her shoulders. “What is it, dear?”

Brenda bit her lip, then said, “You will not believe what I discovered about Kelvin today.”

Kunle’s curiosity peaked. “What is it?”

She exhaled sharply. “Kelvin is gay.”

Kunle’s eyes widened in shock. “What!”

Brenda shook her head in disbelief. “I could not believe my ears. I wanted the chair to just swallow me whole. How could such a nice guy be gay? I think I better stop following him to work.”

Kunle studied her expression carefully before speaking. “Do you think he is harmful?”

“No, but babe, I just…”

Kunle cut her off gently. “No, dear. See that guy as a soul God wants you to witness to.”

Before Brenda could respond, the sudden ringing of Kunle’s phone filled the room. He glanced at the screen and frowned.

“Oh, it’s Samuel. I’ve missed his call like four times today. Let me pick up.”

Brenda nodded, watching as Kunle answered the call.

“Hello, Samuel.”

A troubled voice came through the line. “Kunle.”

Kunle straightened. “Hey, what’s up? What’s going on?”

Samuel’s voice was shaky. “Kunle, please help me. Call your wife. She needs to help me talk to her sister.”

Kunle’s heart dropped. “What happened?”

Samuel exhaled heavily, as though the words physically pained him to say. “Bella broke up with me today.”

Kunle’s mouth fell open slightly. “Bella broke up with you?”

“Yes.”

Kunle sat back down, rubbing his forehead. “Why?”

“I don’t know,” Samuel admitted, his voice laced with frustration and heartbreak.

Brenda, who had been listening in, suddenly sat up straight. “Hey, wait, what is going on?”

Samuel hesitated before asking, “Is that Brenda?”

“Yes, she’s here,” Kunle replied, putting the call on speaker.

Brenda leaned in, her brows furrowed. “Hello, Samuel. What is going on?”

Samuel’s voice cracked slightly. “Your sister, Bella, just broke up with me today.”

Brenda gasped. “What! Why?”

“She wasn’t able to give me any reason.”

Brenda shook her head in disbelief. “That can’t be true.”

“It is true,” Samuel insisted. “Please, help me beg her. I have put my all into this relationship. I know what God told me before I went to meet her. She is my gold, a special gift from God to me. I love her.”

Brenda sighed, her heart aching at the raw pain in Samuel’s voice. “I am so sorry, Samuel. Please, calm down. I will talk to her.”

“Please do. I don’t know what to say anymore to her.”

“Don’t worry. I will talk to her right away.”

“Promise?” Samuel’s voice was barely above a whisper.

“Promise.”

A long silence hung between them before Samuel finally said, “Okay. Thank you.”

The call ended with a soft disconnecting tone. Brenda and Kunle exchanged glances, the weight of the situation settling between them.

Brenda inhaled deeply before reaching for her phone. She had a call to make, and she only hoped it wouldn’t be too late to fix what had been broken.

Chapter 4: Doubts and Revelations

The night was quiet except for the distant chirping of crickets outside Bella’s window. The dim glow of her bedside lamp barely illuminated the tension in the room.

“Sharon, please, what is wrong with you? Let me sleep in peace now,” Bella groaned, turning away from her persistent sister.

Sharon, sitting upright on the bed, crossed her arms defiantly. “I will not let you sleep tonight until you tell me what Samuel did.”

Bella sighed heavily, pressing a pillow over her face. “And I said I am not ready for this conversation.”

“Then you are not ready to sleep,” Sharon shot back.

“Please, leave me alone.”

Sharon’s voice softened, but the determination remained. “You needed to hear this guy crying on the phone.”

Bella sat up abruptly. “He can do whatever he feels like; my decision is final.”

Sharon tilted her head. “I accept that your decision is final, but you have to tell me why you made it.”

“It is none of your business,” Bella snapped.

Before Sharon could respond, Bella’s phone rang. She glanced at the screen and frowned. “Why is Brenda calling me?”

Sharon smirked. “Nice one, Samuel.”

Bella narrowed her eyes. “You think Samuel told her?”

“It’s expected of him. That guy truly loves you.”

Bella huffed in annoyance before answering. “Hello, Sister.”

“Hi, Bella. How are you?” Brenda’s voice came through calmly.

“I’m fine. How is everyone in the UK?”

“We’re all fine.”

“Are you sure?”

Brenda hesitated. “Well, we were… until a few minutes ago.”

Bella’s stomach tightened. “Really?”

“Yes.”

Bella swallowed. “What happened?”

“Samuel called.”

Bella exhaled sharply. “Oops.”

Brenda didn’t hold back. “I just need you to tell me what that young man has done. I’m not calling to tell you to go back to him. I just want to know your reasons.”

Bella hesitated, then sighed. “Okay, Sister. I’ll spill.”

“Very good, dear.”

Bella ran her fingers through her hair before speaking. “Yes, Samuel is a good guy. He’s God-fearing, loving, and hardworking. And I think he loves me… but I’m not sure I’m attracted to him.”

Brenda frowned. “How do you mean?”

Bella hesitated before lowering her voice. “Sister, I think this guy has a problem. What if I tell you that since we have been dating, he has never made any sexual move on me? I feel like this guy is not man enough… maybe he is not… uh—”

Brenda’s patience thinned. “Uh what?”

Bella’s voice dropped to a whisper. “You know na.”

“Know what?”

Bella groaned. “Brenda, this guy… I have never seen him have an erection.”

Brenda nearly dropped the phone. “What erection are you looking for?”

“At least he should make a sexual move toward me and let me say no. Let me know that the man I want to marry is a man.”

Brenda’s voice turned sharp. “Bella, you want this man to sleep with you before you get married?”

“No, that’s not what I’m saying. But I want to be sure all will be well when we are married.”

Brenda sighed deeply. “Honestly, I am disappointed in you.”

“As expected,” Bella muttered.

“This is the most foolish reason I have ever heard in my life! Is this what you should be thinking of? Did you not pray about this before you said yes?”

Bella squared her shoulders. “I prayed about it, but there’s a place for prayer and a place for physical assessment.”

“Will you shut your mouth?!”

Before Brenda could continue, Kunle’s voice cut in. “No, it’s okay, dear. Let me talk to her.”

Bella stiffened. “Wait… your husband is there?”

“Yes, he is.”

Bella groaned. “What is this nonsense now? You know they are friends, and you made me say all this?”

Kunle’s voice was calm. “No, dear. I won’t tell him anything. I just have a few questions.”

Bella sighed. “Okay, sir.”

“Is my friend a good guy? Be sincere with me.”

Bella nodded. “Yes, he is a good guy.”

“Is he a child of God?”

“Yes, I know he is a child of God.”

“Has he been treating you well?”

Bella hesitated. “He’s trying his best.”

Kunle paused before continuing. “Okay, so his only flaw is that he did not make any sexual advances toward you?”

“Yes.”

“Are you sure that’s all?”

“Yes, that’s all… but please, I don’t want you telling him all this.”

Kunle’s voice was reassuring. “I promise.”

“Thank you.”

“But I have something to tell you.”

Bella frowned. “What is that, sir?”

Kunle’s voice carried a warning. “Don’t get caught in the snares of the fowlers.”

Bella was confused. “What does that mean, sir?”

“Be careful. Be good.”

The call ended with a soft disconnecting tone. Bella turned to Sharon. “Are they mad at me?”

Sharon folded her arms. “Why shouldn’t they be mad at you? Even I, sitting right here, am mad at you.”

Bella frowned. “Why?”

Sharon scoffed. “You broke up a sweet and godly relationship because he didn’t ask you for sex?”

“Hey, don’t get me wrong! I’m not saying he should sleep with me. I wouldn’t even allow that in the first place. But at least he should ask! I’ve tried to touch him several times, and this thing no dey try show face.”

Sharon gave her a blank stare. “Which thing?”

Bella muttered, “Samuel junior.”

Sharon gasped. “Do you think you’re making sense right now?”

Bella groaned. “Samuel is a good guy. But what if he is this good because he cannot do the do?”

Sharon grabbed a pillow and smacked Bella lightly. “I feel like slapping you right now.”

“Now I’m the bad one,” Bella muttered.

“You don’t know how lucky you are! If there’s anything I fear in my relationship, it’s the constant pressure from Fred trying to sleep with me.”

Bella shook her head. “I want something like that. I want to be sure my guy is complete.”

Sharon’s eyes darkened. “You think you can handle that kind of pressure?”

Bella hesitated. “Don’t tell him, please.”

Sharon shook her head. “I won’t. But answer my question—do you think you can handle the pressure of your spouse asking for sex?”

Bella swallowed hard. “I think I can.”

Sharon sighed in frustration. “Don’t be stupid.”
